The Moon
Name: Moon comes from an old English word, Mona, meaning month or to measure.
Diameter: 2,160 miles
Rotates Around the Earth: 291-292 Earth Days
Fun Moon Facts: They used to think there was only one moon, until Galileo found satellites orbiting around Jupiter. He also called them moons, after our own moon.
Outside of Earth, the moon is the only other place humans have visited. American Astronaut, Neil Armstrong, was the first man to land on the moon on, July 20, 1969; an epic day for humankind!
The moon is also the setting for the first book in my Amelia’s Amazing Space Adventures, a series for children. Amelia, and Uglesnoo, the friendly alien from Pluto visit the moon in Amelia, the Moochins and the Sapphire Place. There they have their first exciting adventure, as they begin their space quest to save Uglesnoo’s sister!
Next post: Fun facts about the planet Venus.
